Recall Details

Monkey Spit, LLC, a barbecue sauce manufacturer based in Nipomo, California, has issued a recall for three of its popular sauce varieties due to labeling issues that failed to disclose potential allergens. The recall, conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects 12-ounce bottles of Monkey Mop BBQ Sauce, Swamp Mob BBQ Sauce, and Atomic Mop BBQ Sauce.

The company further specified the affected products as “Monkey Spit Mop BBQ Sauce, Monkey Spit Swamp BBQ Sauce and Monkey Spit Atomic Mop BBQ Sauce.”

The recall was initiated after an FDA inspection revealed undeclared allergens in the products. Specifically, Monkey Mop BBQ Sauce contains undeclared milk, Swamp Mob BBQ Sauce contains undeclared soy, and Atomic Mop BBQ Sauce contains undeclared milk and wheat. These undisclosed ingredients pose a significant risk to individuals with allergies or sensitivities to these allergens.

The affected products can be identified by their best-by dates: 11/07/2026 for Monkey Mop, 12/13/2025 for Swamp Mob, and 03/19/2026 for Atomic Mop. These sauces were primarily distributed to local consumers on California’s central coast and through the company’s website.

While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall, the company and the FDA are urging consumers with allergies to milk, wheat, or soy to exercise caution. Individuals who have purchased these products are encouraged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The FDA advises that undeclared allergens can cause severe or life-threatening reactions, such as anaphylaxis, in sensitive individuals. As a precautionary measure, the agency recommends that anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming these products should stop eating them immediately and seek medical attention.

Monkey Spit, LLC has taken swift action in response to the labeling issue. The company has suspended production of the affected sauces until the problem is resolved. All known products have been collected from local retailers, and online customers have been notified of the recall.

Consumers seeking additional information about the recall can contact Monkey Spit, LLC at 1-714-514-8445 or via email at [email protected].
